A Relationship Milestone | Anniversary

It has already been a year since we became official. A lot of things had happened, the good and the bad. But despite those and our differences, we managed to cross the rough road. And yesterday, June 26, 2017, we celebrated our anniversary, another milestone in our relationship.

Nowadays, relationships last only for a few weeks. Some even just for a number of days. And you’re already lucky if it lasted for a couple of months. This is the reality of today’s romantic relationships. What more for those who are in a same-sex relationship? Every day is quite a struggle. The fear of being discriminated and rejected, fear of losing the other person, the fear of getting cheated and the fear of being alone again.

I and my partner had a rough start. It wasn’t easy for both of us. We had a lot of misunderstandings and petty fights. However we always know how to accept each other’s flaws and shortcomings. And by the end of day, we always choose each other and come out a stronger than the day before.

I am also glad that his parents are open-minded and accepted me as part of their family when we visited their place in Bolinao, Pangasinan a few months back.

To celebrate this milestone, we had dinner at small Japanese sushi bar called Izakaya Shonantei the night before our anniversary. I have been wanting to visit the place since I read a review about it a few months ago. I was excited and expected too much. However, that died down when we have to wait for an hour before all our orders were served and the food wasn’t good at all.

Since we didn’t enjoy our dinner, we decided to visit the R20 Hub Food Park along Mindanao Ave which is just near the restaurant. We decided to drink a few bottles before we go home and we had three bottles of beer each. I even told him that I no longer remember the last time I went for a drink before that night. And when we got home, I gave him my surprise gift, a watch from Tomato Time. I know it’s not much but still he loves it. I also uploaded my surprise anniversary video on our page.

The next day, our special day, we went to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig to visit another Japanese restaurant for lunch. I was so excited but decided not to expect too much this time. We decided to watch Despicable Me 3 first which was very entertaining. They introduced new characters and hinted another Despicable Me movie.

After that, we went straight to Ogawa Traditional Japanese Restaurant. The experience was unlike that of Izakaya Shonantei. We ordered two set of meals and we didn’t have to wait long before our orders were served. And this time, the dishes were very satisfying! We enjoyed the food and we were attended properly. We’ll surely go back to this place.

I love how we celebrated our anniversary. It was simple but the bond we had is irreplaceable. I am looking forward for another great year with him. And today marks the first day and the start of our second year. I understand that it will not always be sunshine but I know that it’s going to be great and worth it.
