MY MOST FAVORITE SONGS | TAYLOR SWIFT

It was back in 2008 when I first heard of the name Taylor Swift. I was reviewing then for an upcoming exam when her song Teardrops on my Guitar was playing on the radio. It was a beautiful song about being attracted to someone who is already interested in someone else. Even though it was my first time hearing that song, I was captivated by it that I was singing and humming the tune unconsciously the days after.

One day in the library, I was with a classmate trying to do a last minute review before the exam when I suddenly started singing the lyrics that I can remember in a very low voice. She then tapped my shoulder and asked me what I was singing. I told her that I heard it from the radio the other night and just got stuck in my head.

That’s when she introduced me to my queen, Taylor Swift. I didn’t have a clue that Teardrops on my Guitar was released two years ago that time. She said that she’s not really a fan of her (I bet she is now) but she has great songs that I might want to listen to. So I did my research and looked her up on the internet. I started listening to her songs like Our Song, Picture to Burn and Tim McGraw. I still remember that Change was just released that time and I was like ‘we’ll sing hallelujah’. And since then, Taylor Swift and her songs has been a part of me. And I will always be in love with her music.

Here is the list of my top favorite songs.

INVISIBLE

It is the thirteenth song of her debut album Taylor Swift deluxe edition. It is about being in love with a person who is already in love with someone else. Some says that this is about the same guy, Drew Hardwick, from her song Teardrops on my Guitar. All she wants is for the guy to notice her and realize that there could be something more between them.

THE WAY I LOVED YOU

It is her tenth song from her second studio album, Fearless. It was co-written with John Rich. In this song, she has a perfect relationship with a nice guy who gets along with her parents that even her friends are jealous of the relationship she has. However, she misses the relationship she had with a guy who wasn’t perfect in anyway. Despite the screaming and fighting, she misses the spontaneity of the previous relationship that comes in a roller coaster kind of rush. She didn’t expect she could have so many feelings about one person.

YOU BELONG WITH ME

It is country pop song co-written by Swift and Liz Rose and co-produced with Nathan Chapman. It is her third single from her second studio album and was release on April 2009. This song is about being in love with someone who’s already in a relationship with a person who doesn’t appreciate him at all. It won Favorite Song at the 2010 Kids Choice Awards and was nominated for Song of the Year at the 45th Academy of Country Music Awards.

CRAZIER

It is a relaxed ballad with country qualities performed by Taylor Swift during a cameo in the Hannah Montana: The Movie. She co-wrote the song with Robert Ellis Orrall and co-produced with Nathan Chapman. It is about falling in love with someone who makes you crazier with everything that they do and fall for that person more and more.

BACK TO DECEMBER

Back to December is the second single from her third studio album Speak Now. It is a country pop song written solely by Taylor Swift which is an apology to a past lover. It was released November 2010 and was positively received by critics. It is said that the song is about her short relationship with the Twilight actor, Taylor Lautner, and her regrets over how she handled it. According to Swift, she never felt the need to apologize in a song before. But in the last two years she experienced a lot of different kinds of learning lessons. And sometimes she learn a lesson too late and at that point she need to apologize because she was careless.

SPEAK NOW

The song is the title track from her third studio album. It is written solely by Swift and co-produced with Nathan Chapman and was released on October 2010. According to Swift, the song was actually inspired by one of her friends who told her a story about her childhood sweetheart-crush guy. “They were together in high school and then went their separate ways. I understood it as they were going to get back together. She comes in and tells me that he’s getting married. He had met this other girl who was a horrible person. She made him stop talking to his friends, cut off his family ties, and made him so isolated. And randomly, I was like, ‘Oh, are you going to speak now?’”, Swift explained.

I ALMOST DO

It is the seventh song from her fourth studio album, Red. The song is about missing a past lover and how tempted she wants to reach the phone and call that person. She wants that someone to know that despite not being able to tell him, he is still on her mind. According to some, this song is about Adam Young, singer-songwriter of Owl City.

THE LAST TIME

It is the seventh and the final single from Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album. The song was co-written the singer Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and its producer Garret Lee, an Irish music producer and mixer. This song is about a couple who’ve hurt each other in the past. It is also about the guy asking for an apology and another chance but she already had enough of the hurt and won’t go through it again.

STATE OF GRACE

It was her fourth and final promotional single from her Red album and was released to the iTunes Store on October 2012. It is an alternative rock song but also has an acoustic version. It is about the feeling of new love and the amazing feeling that everything is going to work out. What have the artists said about the song? During her preview of the song on ABC’s Good Morning America, Taylor explained: “I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone. The possibilities. Kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go.”

CLEAN

It is the thirteenth song from her fifth studio album, 1989. It was co-written and co-produced by Taylor Swift and Imogen Heap. According to Swift, it’s about getting over a past relationship where you can say you’ve moved on and you’re finally clean. However, you can also say that it talks about being clean from addictions – drugs or to a person. You can also say that it’s about getting over your depression and that finally, you can start over and you’re clean.

THIS LOVE

This is the eleventh track on Taylor Swift’s 1989. It is the only song on the album that she wrote alone. It talks about love being worth it even in a relationship that is not perfect. During her interview with Pop Crush, Taylor Swift was asked which of her songs from her 1989 album she listens to the most and she said, “I think the one that I kept going back to, over and over and over again, is a song called ‘This Love,’ actually. It’s a song that I wrote by myself. It’s kind of like hypnotic in a way, and it kind of is somewhat romantic and wistful and relaxing.”

Here are also other songs worth mentioning:

  • Tim McGraw (Taylor Swift)
  • I’m Only Me When I’m With You (Taylor Swift Deluxe Edition)
  • Breathe (Fearless)
  • Forever And Always (Fearless)
  • White Horse (Fearless)

  1. I’ve loved Taylor Swift ever since Teardrops On My Guitar too. The oldie that I always go back to is Enchanted from the Speak Now album. It’s about meeting someone and that first spark, thinking about the possibility of a relationship. My husband and I consider it our song since I sent it to him after we’d been dating for a few weeks.
